Polinsky Children's Center

"The Child Abuse Prevention Foundation" (CAPF) began 22 years ago and has raised over $25 million for various child abuse prevention and treatment programs throughout San Diego County. CAPF's mission is to break the cycle of child abuse, through prevention, education, advocacy and funding.

CAPF is best known for raising $12 million to build the Polinsky Children's Center (PCC), San Diego's emergency shelter for abused, abandoned and neglected children. The campus covers ten acres and has a gym, school, seven cottages, a medical clinic, cafeteria and a library. This year, CAPF commemorates the Polinsky Children's Center's 10th anniversary of service to San Diego's most vulnerable children.

CAPF continues to support the Polinsky Children's Center each year through community fundraising and granting monies toward projects and programs that enhance the quality of life for its residents. Polinsky Children's Center projects currently funded by CAPF include: recreation, medical equipment, development screenings and assessments, a youth to youth mentoring program, a new state-of-the-art nursery, a teen activity center, Chaplaincy program, educational field trips and book clubs.

Burnham Way staff contribute to the Polinsky Children's Center through employee donations, as volunteers on-campus and through participation in special projects such as back-pack and holiday drives."
